¡¡¡¡The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive global rankings have been updated on Tuesday, June 8, awarding the teams a spot on the ladder based on their showings throughout May. While there aren¡¯t any surprises at the top of the standings, a few sides have impressed enough to earn their spot amongst CS:GO elite.
¡¡¡¡Sitting atop of the CS:GO esports global rankings are Gambit, who have retained their spot as the top-rated team in the world. The Russian side rose to the top in April, following their title-winning run at ESL Pro League Season 13.
¡¡¡¡Last month, Gambit sat well clear of the field, with 1000 points to their name, which was good for a 180-point gap between them and the second-placed Heroic. Due to points decay, Gambit now have 973, which sits them 188 points ahead of the current second-placed Natus Vincere.
¡¡¡¡Natus Vincere rose two spots on the global rankings with the latest update. Even though the Ukrainian side failed to win the controversial EPIC CIS League Spring 2021, Oleksandr ¡°s1mple¡± Kostyliev and his crew grabbed the title of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 champions at the start of May, increasing their total points tally to 785.
¡¡¡¡Although NaVi and Gambit are the only two CIS teams inside the top-five on the global rankings, the region features five more sides that have made it inside the top-20.
¡¡¡¡Virtus.pro and Team Spirit both slipped down the ladder by three spots. Virtus.pro are eighth on the standings, whereas Team Spirit sit in 14th, with 452 and 298 points, respectively.
¡¡¡¡Joining the four CIS juggernauts are Entropiq, forZe, and Akuma as the final three teams from the region that have clawed their way into the top-20. Entropiq rose by six spots from the May rankings update, while forZe gained eighth spots.
¡¡¡¡The biggest surprise on the CS:GO global rankings are Akuma, who reached the top-20 on the back of a controversial third-place finish at the EPIC CIS League Spring 2021. The team have been accused of stream-sniping Natus Vincere in their 2-0 win; however, nothing has been confirmed yet.
¡¡¡¡European sides have claimed six spots inside the top-10 and retained their tag as the most competitive CS:GO esports region in the world.
¡¡¡¡The former no.1 team Heroic have been placed in third with 766 points, just 19 points short of NaVi in second. The Danes have proven to be one of the most dominant teams of 2021 and enter June with a 75% win rate across the last three months.
¡¡¡¡Even that, however, wasn¡¯t enough for Heroic to pass NaVi and Gambit, having failed to win a single tournament since ESL Pro League Season 13 in April. Regardless, Heroic haven¡¯t finished outside of the top-four in their last three, including third-fourth at BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown 2021 and DreamHack Masters Spring 2021, as well as fourth-place finish at the Flashpoint Season 3.
¡¡¡¡G2 Esports (4th), Astralis (5th), mousesports (6th), BIG (7th), and Ninjas in Pyjamas (10th) round up the list of the top-rated European CS:GO sides. Out of five, mousesports showed the most improvement, gaining eight spots over the last month with a strong showing at the Flashpoint Season 3, which they won at the end of May while dropping only one map out of 11 played.
¡¡¡¡The top CS:GO esports teams are currently competing at the 16th season of Intel Extreme Masters ¨C Summer. It marks the penultimate S-Tier tournament before the Intel Extreme Masters Season XVI ¨C Cologne.
¡¡¡¡The IEM Cologne will run from July 6-18 with 24 teams in attendance and $1,000,000 in the prize pool. The CS:GO tournament will take place in Cologne, Germany, as a LAN Studio event.
¡¡¡¡The esports bookmakers have yet to release betting odds for the first LAN CS:GO tournament of the year. However, we can expect the markets to open after BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021, slated to end on June 20.
